Only the British government, according to Uchechi Kanu, wife of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, can prevent the Nigerian government from harming the agitator further.
She made the remark in a letter to Dominic Raab MP, the UK’s Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Affairs.
Only Raab, according to Uchechi, can put a stop to the IPOB leader’s current predicament.
Kanu’s UK legal team, Bindmans LLP, included her call in the letter.
On behalf of the Kanu family, Bindmans LLP submitted a pre-action letter to Raab MP, contesting his continued failure to give consular aid to the IPOB leader, who is a British national.
“Only the British government can prevent him from being subjected to further harm. My family’s future happiness rests with Dominic Raab. He can end all of this in an instant. He can stop my nightmare,” she said.
Since he was kidnapped, tortured, and repatriated from Kenya, Kanu has been in the custody of the Department of State Services, or DSS.
Despite being in DSS custody, the secret police refused to appear in court on Monday to continue Kanu’s trial.
The prosecution had told the Federal High Court, led by Justice Binta Nyako, that the DSS had been unable to deliver Kanu due to logistical issues.
In light of this, the trial judge postponed the case to October 21st.
