Hadiza, ex-President Shehu Shagari’s wife, died of COVID-19

Hadiza Shagari, the wife of former President Shehu Shagari, died on Thursday around 3 a.m., according to her family.
At the Gwagwalada Isolation Centre in Abuja, the 80-year-old died of COVID-19 complications.
Mr. Shagari’s wife, Hadiza Shagari, died three years ago at the age of 93, following a brief illness.
On behalf of the Shagari family, Muhammad Bala Shagari, Sarkin Mafaran Shagari, released a statement announcing the burial ceremonies.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Hajiya Hadiza Shehu Shagari, wife of late President Shehu Usman Aliyu Shagari, GCFR (Turakin Sokoto).
After battling COVID-19 at the Gwagwalada Isolation Centre in Abuja, we lost her in the early hours of today, 12 August 2021, at around 3:00 a.m.,” the statement adds.
“Hajiya Hadiza Shehu Shagari was a woman in her eighties. Her Jana’iza (Funeral Prayer) will be held in the National Mosque in Abuja today at 4:00 p.m., immediately after Asr prayer.”
