Mrs Faith Okebata, one of the people burned when military troops raided Izombe in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State last Friday, has died.

Okebata died on Friday at the Federal Medical Centre in Owerri, despite medical personnel’s best efforts to save her life.

Faith, 36, was badly burned while attempting to save her mother-in-law, Mrs Catherine Okebata, who had suffered a stroke seven years previously.

Tens of houses had been set on fire by troops who were in the community as part of a revenge military operation. The victim’s country home was one of the houses that was set ablaze.

The mother of four, who married in 2011, was transported to the FMC in Owerri after being burned.

“The woman was trying to rescue her mother-in-law who was in the house after the soldiers set it on fire. She succeeded in rescuing her but she got burnt severely as her breasts, face and other parts of her body were completely burnt. She couldn’t make it. She left behind four children, including a young husband,” a source revealed.

When contacted by our correspondent, her husband, Sunday Okebata, said that he was saddened by the death of his wife.

He said, ” I feel pained that my wife died because she was trying to rescue my sick mother. Our country home, including all our property got burnt as the military set it on fire.”
